Healthy Skin

Healthy skin starts with personal habits. While some things about skin are impossible to change, such as the genetics that determine general skin type or hormone changes in the body causing acne, many bad habits can contribute to unhealthy skin which can lead to chronic dermatitis (for more info on that click here or visit www.health.gov.au)

Fortunately, understanding the habits that make skin less than pristine can make it possible to improve the way skin looks and feels from the inside-out.

Eating Habits:

Eating habits are one of the areas that might seem debatable, but is a major factor in the health of skin. Too much sugar consumption along with poor overall nutrition can lead to poor skin health. Too much sugar results in more bacteria and that leads to more acne popping up throughout the body. Combine the high level of sugar with too few nutrients and the results are dull, unhealthy skin that is prone to acne.

Ideally, you should try eating between five and nine servings of fruits and vegetables in a wide range of colours every day. This provides the body with nutrient rich food that will help give new life to the skin while also helping minimise that pesky acne.

Stop Smoking:

Smoking is not only cancer causing, it has a dramatic negative effect on the skin. Smokers should be aware of the fact that smoking depletes the body of oxygen and ultimately leads to premature wrinkles and aged skin. Simply quitting can make a smoker’s skin look healthy and vibrant again.

Work on Stress:

High levels of stress result in acne breakouts and sensitive skin, regardless of your natural skin type. By lowering stress levels in the body, you are not only stopping the acne that comes with stress, but you are also improving the overall health of your body.

Exercise, deep-breathing and yoga are all good ways to relax and get rid of stress because it causes you to focus on something else. Any way that you personally relax and unwind is ideal, whether it is reading a book, taking a bubble bath or working out at the gym.

Take Care with Soap:

Avoid harsh soap when washing the skin. Instead, pick out a gentle soap designed specifically for your skin type. This will help prevent the breakout of hives due to allergies or itchy, dry skin as the result of depleting the natural oils in the skin.

Healthy skin is as much about what you do as what you don’t do. Since your skin is a reflection of the state of your internal body, taking care of your health will often lead to healthy and beautiful skin.  For more tips on keeping your skin in tip top condition visit this site.
